Light Bulb Types:
Which Bulb Type is Best for Your Home?

light bulbs

With so many light bulb types available these days, it can sometimes be confusing as to which is best for your home. There are many factors that will contribute to your decision such as the fixture type, fixture location, indoor vs. outdoor use, usage frequency, and more. For many centuries, homeowners used conventional incandescent bulbs for most of their home lighting needs with the occasional use of a fluorescent bulb in a basement, utility room or garage.  But as the world becomes more aware of the importance of energy savings and energy efficient bulbs, incandescent bulbs continue to lose popularity and have even become outlawed in some countries. Click on any of the light bulb types below to learn more about each type and to learn which bulb type is best for your home's needs.

Incandescent Light Bulbs- For centuries, incandescent bulbs were the best choice for homeowners.  While they are the most inexpensive light bulb on the market they often end up costing the homeowner more because it uses so much electricity.

cfl bulb
Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL Bulbs)- Compact fluorescent light bulbs are quickly becoming the most popular choice of light bulbs for home applications.  They are energy efficient, easy to install and last a long time.

led bulb
LED Light Bulbs- LED Bulbs are used in many different applications. LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes. LED bulbs produce a soft white light, without harsh reflection, glare or shadows and are slightly more energy efficient than CFL's.

xenon light bulb
Xenon Light Bulbs- Xenon bulbs are super energy efficient and can last anywhere between 8,000-20,000 hours. Xenon bulbs are commonly used for smaller lighting needs such as under cabinet lighting or small lamps.
