The following are ways to maintain good illumination in your home:

• Clean fixtures, lamps and lenses every 6-24 months to eliminate dust that has built up. Never clean an incandescent bulb while it is on, as the water's cooling effect could shatter the bulb.
• Replace lenses if they start to look yellow. It is recommended that all the bulbs in a lighting system be replaced at the same time in order to cut down on labor, avoid stress on any ballast with a dying lamp, and to keep illumination high.
• Clean your walls or repaint your rooms every 1-3 years, depending on the size of the space. Dirt collects on the walls, which reduces the amount of light that is reflected off the walls.
