It is important to keep the interior of your microwave clean. The vapors can transfer grease and residues to the cavity, which can cause rust and corrosion of the interior. Make sure when you are cooking food in the microwave that you cover it; steam from the food will permeate the inside cavity of the control panel which may cause it to fail.

A good tip is to place a paper napkin or paper towel to cover the food. You can also purchase a plastic food cover which is specially designed for covering food in a microwave.
